Bamboo Orchid Cottage Bed & Breakfast is located in the storybook village of Volcano, Hawaii, a community of artists, writers and scientists. We are secluded in the forest yet just 5 minutes to the entrance of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park with its spectacular hiking trails , scenic vistas and lava viewing. Volcano is 29 miles from the Hilo airport and 96 miles from Kailua- Kona.

Be sure to bring an appetite! The complimentary all -you- can- eat breakfast is a gourmet delight of local tropical goodies featuring local ingredients you'd never find in a hotel. And if you appreciate a cup of good coffee or tea like I do , you'll find freshly ground and brewed cappuccino, latte and even real hot chocolate from our espresso bar. Since we grow and blend our own premium teas, you'll get to sample some unique flavors of Hawaii.

Affordable Luxury: All rooms feature deluxe handmade artisan beds , quality Sealy bedding, fine linens and a range of spa amenities you'd find in an expensive resort hotel , but at half the price. Choose from a variety of rooms at the main house or from unique private cottages at our sister property Volcano Tree-House. There is something for every budget. Afternoon treats, an assortment of beverages, and personalized service to help make your vacation memorable are always complimentary.

Central Island Location: Our central island location makes it a perfect home base for day trips and adventures. Ocean sports, hot springs, waterfalls, farm and cultural tours, antiquing, hiking, museums, golf and great dining are only a short drive away.
In the evening you will return to a peaceful, cool, mountain retreat, scented with wild ginger, where you can snuggle up under a cozy down comforter and awake to a symphony of forest songbirds instead of road noise or a maid pounding on your door.

Directions: Volcano Village is a 3 hour drive from the major airports in Kailua -Kona and 45 minutes from Hilo. From either direction on Highway 11 when you reach Volcano Village turn onto Pearl Ave at the 28 mile marker. (A right from Kona, 1 mile after the National Park entrance or a left from Hilo before you get to the Park) Continue on Pearl to 10th St. and make a right. Look for our sign a short way down the street on the left. A solar lit, flower lined drive will lead you to the parking area and front door.

Bamboo Orchid Cottage is a Contemporary Craftsman Cottage designed by reknowned Canadian architect John Robinson  and built by Paul Baillie & Sons of Kea'au Hawaii.It was specially adapted for tropical rainforest living. Guests will delight in the soaring 20' Great Room ceiling, hardwood floors, lava rock fireplace, and Craftsman accents.


What to bring:
Volcano is situated at 3800' elevation in a unique native rainforest and experiences cool evenings. A light jacket, sweater or sweatshirt is appropriate. You may borrow a flashlight for night time lava viewing. Due to the elevation, you may also want sunscreen and a hat, especially if you plan to do some hiking. Bring lots of film. There are scenic vistas everywhere and only a couple general stores with short hours and limited supplies.

In keeping with Hawaiian custom, we ask that you remove your shoes in the house. Feel free to bring your own slippers, or use the clean slippers or socks provided in a basket at the entrance. We are home to a friendly, well behaved dog, who never enters the guest bedrooms but loves to be petted in the common areas. He will try his best to help ease your withdrawals of leaving your own pets at home.
